Breed Capability Tests

(B-CAPS)

These tests were designed specifically for the Shorty Bull breed.  They were built according to a Shorty Bulls capabilities given it’s unique bulldog type build and drive. The B-CAP ‘Average’  should be easily attained with minimal training and handler skill.  The B-CAP ‘Good’ and ‘Excellent’ titles require more training and skill and should be an attainable title achieved by many Shorty Bulls.

ALL EXERCISES WILL BE DONE ON LEASH, UNLESS OFF LEASH IS STATED IN THE EXERCISE.

LEASH MUST REMAIN LOOSE AT ALL TIMES.  WORKING HARNESSES WILL BE ALLOWED.

JUDGE WILL CALL OUT EXERCISES.

B-CAP AVERAGE:

Heel with dog on left or right side 25 paces.  Horn will blow three times at random intervals throughout exercise.  Dog must not overreact and must stay under control.  At the end of 25 paces, make a right or left about turn.  Heel back up field into mulling crowd of six people.  Stop in centre of crowd.  Each person will walk up individually and make contact with handler.  Dog must remain under control.  After all six people have made contact, the complete crowd will walk up and crowd handler and dog, then back away.  When complete crowd backs away, judge will indicate to continue and handler and dog will walk over strange surface (10 x 10 tarp on ground). Handler will sit dog in centre of tarp, then heel off tarp on judges signal.  End of B-CAP Average.

B-CAP GOOD:

Retrieve object of choice six times consecutively.  Throw must be at least 20 foot each time.  Dog must stay focused on activity for duration.  Handler must stay behind line at all times during activity.   Dog must go over 30″ vertical jump. Any form of bait may be used. Contact with jump will not be considered a fault. Dog is only required to jump one way. No “help” correction prior to or during jump. End of B-Cap Good.

B-CAP EXCELLENT:

Drag Sled: Dog must pull two times body weight a minimum of 16 feet.  No bait allowed.

Four Mile Run: Judge will check dog at two mile mark and a three minute rest will be allowed. Handler may run or ride bicycle.

Hang Time:  Hang time can be done off of any apparatus, using object of choice OR Handler may suspend own dog, but no contact between handler and dog may occur during activity.  Dog is allowed two rebites.  Clock will stop when dog touches ground or handler OR when dog comes off the bite.  Clock starts on rebite. Dog must hang for three consecutive minutes.  Three rebites allowed before dismissal from activity. End of B-CAP Excellent.

**B-CAP testing may only be conducted under the supervision of a BBC Certified B-CAP Judge**
