Breeder Code of Ethics
Breeders who register dogs with the Bull Breed Coalition are expected to uphold standards that promote the health, integrity, and responsible stewardship of the breeds they produce.
BBC breeders agree to the following principles:
Responsible Breeding Practices
Breeders should only breed dogs that are physically sound, mentally stable, and representative of their breed’s standard. Dogs displaying severe structural faults, unstable temperaments, or serious hereditary health concerns should not be used for breeding.
Accurate Record Keeping
All pedigree information, breeding records, and registrations submitted to the BBC must be truthful and accurate. Misrepresentation of lineage, falsification of pedigrees, or fraudulent documentation undermines the integrity of the registry and will not be tolerated.
Animal Welfare
All dogs must be maintained in clean, safe, and humane environments with access to proper nutrition, veterinary care, and adequate socialization.
Responsible Placement
Breeders should make reasonable efforts to place puppies in responsible homes and provide guidance to owners regarding the care and well-being of their dogs.
Respect for Breed Integrity
Breeders should work to preserve the structure, temperament, and purpose of their breed while avoiding extreme exaggerations or practices that may negatively impact the long-term health of the breed.
Registry Integrity
Breeders participating in the Bull Breed Coalition agree to respect the rules and standards of the registry and cooperate in maintaining transparent and accurate stud books.
Failure to follow these principles may result in disciplinary action, including suspension or removal of registry privileges.
Breed Preservation & Development
The Bull Breed Coalition is committed to the long-term preservation and responsible development of canine breeds under its registry, with the Shorty Bull remaining the foundation of the organization.
Breed preservation requires more than simply recording pedigrees. It requires thoughtful stewardship of bloodlines, careful evaluation of breeding programs, and a commitment to maintaining the physical structure, temperament, and overall health that define a breed.
Through its registry system, stud books, and breeder collaboration, the BBC works to ensure that each generation of dogs moves the breed forward while honoring its established type and historical roots.
For developing breeds and foundation projects, the BBC provides a structured framework for documenting lineage, stabilizing traits, and building consistent bloodlines over time. These efforts allow breeders to work within a transparent system that records the progression of a breed from its early stages toward long-term stability.
By maintaining accurate records and encouraging responsible breeding practices, the Bull Breed Coalition serves as a central resource for breeders, owners, and enthusiasts dedicated to the preservation and advancement of their breeds.
